Frequently asked questions

How much do you keep net as a freelancer in 2026?

That depends on your profit. Roughly speaking, the brackets, tax credits and SME profit exemption leave you somewhere between 60% and 75% net; the higher the profit, the lower that percentage. Enter your hourly rate or revenue and the calculator works it out exactly with the 2026 figures.

Which deductions does the calculator include?

The self-employed deduction (€ 1,200 in 2026), the starter's deduction (€ 2,123, optional tick) and the 12.7% SME profit exemption. After that the general tax credit and the labour tax credit come off, and you pay the 4.85% Zvw contribution over at most € 79,409.

How much income tax do you pay as a freelancer in 2026?

In 2026 there are three brackets: 35.70% up to € 38,883, 37.56% up to € 79,137 and 49.50% above that. Your effective burden is considerably lower thanks to the tax credits and the SME profit exemption; the calculator shows that difference.

Does VAT count towards what I keep net?

No. The VAT on your invoices is not income: you charge it on top of your rate and pay it over every quarter. The calculator shows the VAT amount separately as an indication, so you can set it aside straight away.

Is this net income calculator free and up to date?

Yes. Free, without an account and without your input being stored. The calculation uses the official figures from the 2026 Dutch tax plan and is updated every year.
