What's new in Finq

A credit invoice now settles the invoice by itself

A small improvement for when a customer insists on a credit invoice:

• ImprovedInvoice and credit invoice both settled · When you create a credit invoice that fully cancels an open invoice, Finq marks both as paid when you issue it, on the date of the credit invoice. No money changes hands, and you no longer have to work out which status to use. If the invoice has already been paid, or you only credit part of it, nothing changes and Finq tells you why beforehand.

For internationals: the VAT return in English, tax deadlines and a page of their own

Two things that take a lot of the searching out of filing your return:

• NewThe Dutch wording of the form next to each box · With the app in English, every English label now shows the Dutch box wording underneath, exactly as it appears on the Dutch Tax Administration return. Their business portal is in Dutch only, so "VAT due" will not get you far there. "Verschuldigde btw (rubrieken 1 t/m 4)" will.
• NewTax deadlines in the calendar · Above the calendar you see the next three deadlines with the number of days you have left: the quarterly VAT return and the income tax return. The deadline day is marked in the day grid, and from a VAT line you jump straight to the return for that quarter.
• NewThe M form as well, if you want it · Did you move to or from the Netherlands this year? Tick the box and the M form joins the list. Its final date is stated in your tax return letter, and Finq does not make one up.
• ImprovedOne deadline rule for VAT · The dashboard, the return page and the calendar now work out the deadline with the same rule. The Dutch Tax Administration does not move that date when it falls on a weekend, so 31 January 2027 (a Sunday) simply stays.
• NewA new page for internationals · At /en/for-internationals (in Dutch /voor-internationals) you can read what Finq does for you if you freelance here and do not read Dutch: the whole app in English, English invoices that meet Dutch requirements, invoicing in dollars or pounds and a VAT return that shows the Dutch term for every box.
• NewThe Dutch tax world in five minutes · VAT, income tax, the M-form, the Zvw contribution, the KOR and the hours criterion are explained briefly, each with a guide from the knowledge base.
• NewAnd what you arrange outside Finq · The page is honest about it: your BSN and DigiD, your Chamber of Commerce registration, your residence status, a bank account and your health insurance are yours to arrange. And no, there is no accountant behind Finq.
• FixedInvoices on an iPhone · Tapping an invoice in the list left you with nothing but the Delete button in the panel that opened. That is fixed. Empty date fields on a phone are no longer blank white boxes either: they show dd-mm-yyyy again.

Admin: a switch per connection and cookie-free visitor stats

Finq relies on a handful of services from others. From now on you can see what each one does:

• NewA switch per service · Exchange rates, the payment link on your invoices, outgoing mail, ad measurement and signing in with Google can each be turned on and off separately. If something goes wrong somewhere, that one connection can go off without the rest of Finq stopping.
• ImprovedClear about which data goes where · Each connection states which service it is and which data it gets to see. For the exchange rate, for instance, only the currency and the date, nothing else.
• NewAdmin: website visitor statistics, without cookies · The public pages of getfinq.app now count their own views, without a cookie, without an identifier in your browser and without a third-party service. Your IP address is not stored: what remains is a code that changes every day, and after 90 days that disappears too.
• ImprovedVAT amounts with cents · The dashboard and the VAT return page no longer round for you. You see the cents and round each box on the return yourself, in your own favour.
• NewDo Not Track is respected · If "Do Not Track" is enabled in your browser, we measure nothing at all. We never measure the pages behind the sign-in or shared invoice links.

Invoices in dollars, pounds or francs

You can now invoice a client abroad in their own currency:

• NewCurrency per invoice · When creating an invoice, pick euro, dollar, pound or Swiss franc. The line amounts, the PDF and the invoice link then show that currency.
• NewThe ECB rate is fetched for you · Finq looks up the official daily rate of the European Central Bank for your invoice date. You see which rate was used and can always override it yourself.
• NewYour books stay in euros · Revenue, VAT returns, reports and your tax reserve all use the converted euro amounts. The invoice also shows the VAT amount and the total in euros, exactly as the Dutch Tax Administration requires.
• NewImport your PayPal export · Import your PayPal export just like a bank statement. PayPal's transaction fees are recorded as a separate expense, payments in dollars are converted for you, and withdrawals to your own bank are skipped. The exchange rate difference that remains shows up in your reports.
• NewSet the rate yourself · When PayPal does not convert a payment itself, Finq suggests the daily rate of the ECB. You can always change that rate, or simply enter the euro amount from your bank statement; Finq works out the rate from it, including the transaction fee of the same payment. If fetching the rate fails, the transaction is still imported and you fill in the rate later.
• ImprovedBetter bank import · MT940 now reads the booking date and full descriptions, and the balance check works for every format. Import the same period once more in a different format and Finq recognises the transactions as the same ones far better, and warns you up front.
• ImprovedSNS, ASN and RegioBank · The CSV from these banks is now recognised, including the variant without a header row, and so is the CAMT.053 from their zip file. The balance check accounts for their "balance before booking" column, and card payments get the shop name from the description.

Know what to set aside

The tax reserve now does the real math:

• ImprovedTax reserve based on the actual rates · No more 35% rule of thumb: Reports calculates your income tax and Zvw contribution with this year's rates, including the self-employed deduction, SME profit exemption and tax credits.
• NewReserve widget on the dashboard · Next to VAT you now also see what you want set aside for income tax up to today, growing with every invoice.

Multiple bank accounts

For anyone with more than one business account:

• NewBank import recognizes your own account · Every transaction shows which account it came from, and you can filter the list per account.
• FixedBetter checks with two banks · The possible-gap-in-period warning now checks per account, and identical entries at different banks are no longer skipped as duplicates.

The first weeks

Plenty has been added since the end of July:

• NewNew dashboard: quick actions, uninvoiced hours and a VAT outlook
• NewDate filter on Invoices, Expenses, Quotes, Trips and Bank
• NewPick per day or period which hours go on your invoice
• NewUnlink hours from an invoice again
• NewInvoices start as a draft; the number is assigned when you issue it
• NewTick off which VAT return you have filed
• NewMatch bank payments to outstanding purchase invoices
• NewMixed VAT (21% and 9%) on one invoice, plus AGB code and G-account
• NewPlus invoice styling: three templates, four fonts and fields on or off
• NewEnglish invoices: set the invoice language per client

Finq is live

Finq is officially live. Included from day one:

The beta period
